Tales of Horror ได้ถูกสร้างขึ้นในปี 1919 ซึ่งนำแสดงโดยเหล่า 3 ทูตแห่งนรกของภาพยนตร์เงียบชาวเยอรมัน โดยมี : อานิต้า เบอร์เบอร์, คอนแรด เวด์ท และ ไรน์โฮล์ ชุนเซิล ทั้งสามได้แต่งกายเป็น โสเภณี, ศพ และปีศาจร้าย ตามลำดับ และตอนเที่ยงคืนนี่เอง ทั้งสามได้บุกรุกเข้าไปในร้านขายหนังสือเก่า เพื่อค้นหาบทภาพยนตร์ : 5 ฉากใน 1 องค์, เหตุการณ์ร้ายๆที่เกิดขึ้นทั้ง 5 ครั้ง เกี่ยวกับสามีที่ไม่น่าไว้ใจ, มือที่หายไป และบ้านที่ลึกลับ

ฉากที่ 1 : รอยผี
ภรรยาซึ่งสามีเสียสติ ได้ตกหลุมรักกับหนุ่มผู้ดีเก่า ขณะที่เธอยังพักอยู่ในโรงแรมอยู่นั้น ชู้รักของเธอมาตามหาเธอที่โรงแรมแต่ก็ไม่พบร่องรอย ทุกคนในโรงแรมต่างกล่าวหาว่า ชายคนนั้นฝันไปเองว่าเคยมีหญิงผู้นี้อยู่ในโรงแรม เขาค้นพบในภายหลังว่าเธอได้เสียชีวิตจากโรคระบาด แต่ทุกคนในโรงแรมต้องเก็บเรื่องนี้ใว้เงียบเพราะกลัวผู้คนจะแตกตื่น

ฉากที่ 2 : มือมรณะ
ในงานปาร์ตี้ หนุ่มๆนั่งเล่นเกมลูกเต๋าเพื่อหวังจะชนะ ได้สิทธิในควงกับสาวสวยคนหนึ่ง ระหว่างที่มีการเล่นอยู่นั้น ชายคนหนึ่งลุกขึ้นมาบีบคอคู่ต่อสู้ แต่วิญญาณของผู้ตายกลับมาหลอกหลอนเขา จนทำให้เขาหัวใจวาย

ฉากที่ 3 : แมวดำ
เมื่อชายขี้เมาได้ค้นพบว่าภรรยาไปคบชู้กับชายอื่น เขาจึงฆ่าเธอและซ่อนศพของเธอไว้ในห้องใต้ดินพร้อมกับแมวดำตัวหนึ่ง แมวดำตัวนั้นนำไปสู่การค้นพบศพของเธอ

ฉากที่ 4 : คลับของคนที่อยากฆ่าตัวเอง
ทุกคนที่เข้าร่วมในคลับนี้จะต้องตาย ณ.คลับที่ลึกลับแห่งหนึ่งซึ่งอยู่ในที่ลึกลับ ผู้บุกรุกคนหนึ่งได้จั่วไพ่ได้ใบ 1เอ ข้าวหลามตัด ซึ่งบ่งบอกถึงชีวิตของเขา ที่จะต้องพบกับจุดจบในคืนนั้น ในเวลาเที่ยงคืนนั้นเอง เขาได้เสแสร้งแกล้งตายด้วยโรคหัวใจ และได้ลักเอาคู่ปรับของเขาให้มานั่งบนเก้าอี้แห่งความตาย ซึ่งเป็นชะตาของเขาที่จะต้องเผชิญในคืนนั้น

ฉากที่ 5 : ผีหลอก
หญิงสาวคนหนึ่งซึ่งได้ถูกสามีทิ้งให้อยู่โดยลำพัง ได้เชื้อเชิญแขกของเธอซึ่งถูกทำร้ายภายหลังภายในปราสาทของเธอ และแน่นอน แขกรับเชิญจะต้องให้ความสนใจในตัวเธอผู้ถูกทอดทิ้ง แต่ในที่สุด สามีของเธอซึ่งเป็นท่านแบรอนได้กลับมาบ้าน เขาได้ขู่แขกรับเชิญผู้นั้นจนขวัญผวา ทำให้เปิดเผยความใจเสาะของเขา แบรอน และภรรยาจึงกลับมาคืนดีกันอีก และชู้รักได้เสียท่าเปิดเผยความโง่ของตนออกมาด้วยเหตุเพราะอาการกลัวผีนั่นเอง เวลาผ่านไปจนถึงหนึ่งยาม ปีศาจร้าย, ศพ และโสเภณีได้หายอย่างลึกลับไปพร้อมๆกับละคร หลงเหลือเพียงชายเจ้าของร้านหนังสือที่เริ่มเสียสติไป

This movie was made in 1919 featuring the „trio infernal“ of German silent cinema: Anita Berber, Conrad Veidt and Reinhold Sch�nzel. Wearing costumes of the prostitute, the death and the devil, at midnight the three search the shop of an antiquarian bookseller for screen material : five one-act plays, five sinister occurrences about dubious husbands, lost hands and mysterious houses.

Die Erscheinung/The Apparition:
The wife of an insane husband falls in love with an aristocrat but while she is staying at a hotel, the aristocrat returns to find no trace of her and everyone he asks claims that he arrived on his own. He later learns she died of pestilence which was promptly hushed up by the hotel to prevent a scare.

Die Hand/The Hand:
At a party, several men enter in a game of dice to win the right to court a particularly attractive woman. During the game one man strangles his opponent, but the man's apparition returns to haunt him finally causing a fatal heart attack.

The Black Cat:
When a drunkard discovers his wife is having an affair with another man he kills her and walls up her corpse with a black cat in the cellar. The cat reveals the hiding place.

The Suicide Club:
Everybody who joins has to die. At the secret location for a clandestine social club, an intruder picks the ace of spades from a deck of cards, which indicates that he must die that night. At midnight, the intruder feigns a heart attack and captures his enemy who he places in the chair of death to meet the fate that was intended for him.

Der Spuk/The Haunting:
A young woman left alone by her husband invites a man attacked on the castle grounds as a guest. Naturally his attentions turn to the neglected wife, but her husband the Baron returns and scares the man into submission, revealing that his wife's guest has no courage. The Baron and his wife are then re-united and the lover is made look ridiculous by that ghost story.

At one o'clock devil, death and prostitute vanish in their pictures. Only the antique bookseller goes insane.
