So many magical moments with these gentle giants 🥹 It was an honor to witness so many actions swimming with them 5 days in a roll. Humpback whales are truly captivating creatures, known for their unique, up to 20 minutes long songs (go to last slide to listen 🎶) and their impressive size, reaching 40-50 feet in length and weighing up to 40 tons.

Once on the brink of extinction due to extensive commercial whaling in the 20th century, humpback whales have made a remarkable recovery thanks to conservation efforts and a ban on commercial whaling. They've been reclassified from "endangered" to "vulnerable" on the IUCN Red List, but still face threats like habitat degradation, entanglement in fishing gear, ship strikes, and environmental changes.

To aid in their conservation 🩵 :

1. **Support Conservation Groups:** Back organizations like Whale and Dolphin Conservation or Ocean Conservancy.

2. **Responsible Whale Watching:** Choose responsible tour operators to minimize disruptions to the whales.

3. **Reduce Plastic Use:** Cut down on plastic consumption and properly dispose of it to prevent harm to marine life, including whales.

4. **Back Sustainable Fishing:** Opt for sustainable seafood choices to reduce harm to humpback whales and their habitat. {and if you can, stop or reduce seafood intake}

5. **Advocate for Marine Protected Areas:** Support the establishment and maintenance of marine protected areas to safeguard whale habitats.

6. **Raise Awareness:** Educate yourself and others about the vital role humpback whales play in marine ecosystems and the urgency of their conservation.
