Vajra Sky over Tibet is the third documentary in the visionary series, The Yatra Trilogy. While the first two films explored the lost Buddhist traditions of southeast Asia, this documentary offers a look at a culture on the cusp of becoming another lost civilization.

This cinematic pilgrimage explores Tibet’s endangered Buddhist culture through the visual splendor of the Himalayan landscape and the majesty of its traditions – its temples, monasteries, and festivals, supported by the mystical elegance of Universal Harmonic Chants and the greatest singers and musicians from the Himalayas.

Besides sharing the astonishing beauty and living wisdom of their faith, Tibetans want the world to know that their exquisite traditions are still alive but seriously endangered. In 1959 after the Chinese occupation, over one half of Tibet was assimilated into Chinese provinces. What China refers to as Tibet is the central part of old Tibet with a local population undergoing sinofication.

While Tibetans are free to practice their faith, many see it as window dressing to lessen international criticism and encourage tourism. Pilgrims circumambulate while spinning prayer wheels and chanting mantras, their luminous faces glowing in the flicker of butter lamps in front of the most revered image – the Jowo Buddha.
